At Holy Hoops, our basketball curriculum is designed to develop young athletes at every stage of their journey while keeping Christ at the center. Our structured approach ensures that players learn age-appropriate skills, build confidence, and grow in discipline, teamwork, and faith.
Little Disciples Division (Ages 4-6)
Introduction to Basketball & Fun-Focused Learning
At this stage, our goal is to introduce young children to the game in an engaging and supportive environment. Skills are taught through fun activities that promote coordination, teamwork, and a love for basketball.
Skills & Focus Areas:
• Basic Ball Handling – Dribbling with both hands, ball control, and stationary dribbling
• Passing Fundamentals – Chest pass, bounce pass, and catching with two hands
• Footwork & Movement – Learning to run, stop, and pivot properly
• Basic Shooting Mechanics – Learning the correct form with a small ball and lower hoop
• Listening & Following Directions – Learning basic team concepts through games
• Christian Character Development – Teaching patience, kindness, and sharing
through basketball
The Chosen Division (Ages 7-9)
Fundamentals & Teamwork Development
Players begin learning structured basketball concepts while developing their skills in a fun, encouraging atmosphere. The focus is on building confidence, coordination, and teamwork while reinforcing Christian values.
Skills & Focus Areas:
• Advanced Dribbling – Moving while dribbling, crossovers, and control with both hands
• Passing & Catching – Lead passes, overhead passes, and accuracy
• Shooting Form & Technique – Proper stance, follow-through, and shooting off the dribble
• Defensive Basics – Stance, lateral movement, and basic man-to-man defense
• Basic Game Awareness – Understanding positions, spacing, and moving without the ball
• Christian Character Development – Sportsmanship, humility, and playing with a Christ-centered attitude
Lighthouse Division (Ages 10-12)
Skill Development, Strategy & Game Awareness
At this level, players refine their fundamental skills while learning game strategy and decision-making. The focus is on developing basketball IQ, competitive play, and preparing players for higher levels of the game while maintaining Christlike sportsmanship.
Skills & Focus Areas:
• Advanced Ball Handling – Combination moves, change of speed, and control under pressure
• Passing Under Pressure – No-look passes, passing out of a double team, and transition passing
• Shooting Under Game Conditions – Spot-up shooting, layups with contact, and mid-range shots
• Defensive Strategies – Help-side defense, closeouts, and defensive communication
• Game Awareness & IQ – Fast breaks, offensive plays, and reading the defense
• Christian Leadership & Accountability – Playing with integrity, perseverance, and faith-driven leadership
